If someone is letting you borrow their hotspot, you don't need to reactivate the device. However, you should be aware that the individual's billing information is still tied to the hotspot and they will be billed for your data consumption.
If you received a hotspot from a friend who is letting you borrow it, you should follow the steps identified below to get setup.
- Go to www.somewear.co
- Click "Sign Up"
- Type in your name, email and password in the relevant fields and click Sign Up
- Enter your phone number and click "Send SMS" and follow the authentication flow entering in the number you will be texted
- IMPORTANT: When prompted with the question, "Do you own a Somewear Hotspot", click "No, not yet"
- You're selecting no because this hotspot has already been activated. Selecting yes would require you to go through the satellite activation process again, which is unnecessary.
Now that you have a Somewear account created, you'll need to download the Somewear App from the Apple App Store or Android Play Store. After downloading the app, you can sign in with the credentials you just used to create your account. The first few screens share information on using the hotspot effectively and we recommend you refrain from skipping those. Additionally, here are some tips for initially pairing the device as well.
- First turn on the hotspot by holding down the power button
- Put the hotspot into pairing mode by holding the power button for 5 seconds
- Open the app and tap "Connect Hotspot"
- When you see a prompt to pair, be sure to tap Pair and you should be good to go
- There is a chance you'll see a pop-up, if so just tap Register.
- To ensure you've connected to your hotspot successfully, you can put your device into airplane mode and attempt to send a message over satellite.
